Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy (this “Policy”) describes prohibited uses of the Sesame services. It is intended to help keep our users safe and to promote the safe and responsible use of our services.
We will update our Policy as the technology and associated risks evolve, or as we learn about unanticipated risks. If you have questions about this Policy, please contact legal@sesame.com.
This Acceptable Use Policy is subject to, in all respects, Sesame’s Terms of Use (the “Terms”), and any conflicts between this Acceptable Use Policy and the Terms shall be governed by the Terms. Capitalized but undefined terms in this Policy shall have the meaning set forth in the Terms.
Sesame’s moderation team reserves the right, but does not assume the obligation, to investigate any use or misuse of the Services or any potential violation of this Policy or any other agreement we have with you for the use of Sesame products or services. We may, in our discretion:
- Implement detection and monitoring to enforce this Policy;
- Remove, disable access to, or modify any content or resource that violates this Policy, which may include blocking or modifying access to the model outputs when the input violates this Policy; or
- Throttle, suspend or terminate your access to our products or services.
Restrictions and Acceptable Use
Except to the extent a restriction is prohibited by applicable law, you will not do, and will not help any third party to do, any of the following:
- Do not violate laws or engage in illegal or prohibited activity. This includes using our products or services to:
- Violate any local, state, national, or international law or regulation, such as laws governing intellectual property and other proprietary rights, data protection, privacy, and technology control or export;
- Develop, use, operate, produce, market, exchange, or distribute illegal weapons, explosives, or controlled substances, or disrupt critical infrastructure, applications or services; or
- Discriminate against any individual or group, such as in the provision or denial of education, employment, employment benefits, credit, healthcare, housing, insurance, other economic benefits, or other essential goods and services on the basis of any classification protected by applicable law.
- Do not use our products or services to engage in surveillance, profiling or law enforcement purposes. This includes using our products or services to:
- Conduct unlawful monitoring, tracking, or surveillance;
- Engage in risk-based assessments of individuals’ likelihood of committing crimes or re-offending;
- Categorize individuals or groups based on biometric data or inferring characteristics about them; or
- Create or generate social scoring systems based on social behavior or personality characteristics.
- Do not compromise the safety of minors. This includes using our products or services to:
- Attempt to or compromise child safety, such as by trafficking, grooming, or exposing a child to harmful content;
- Generate, depict, distribute or promote child sexual abuse material, such as in roleplay settings;
- Collect, harvest, input or use children’s personal information; or
- Engage in any of the above activity with respect to an actual child under the age of 18 or, to the extent higher than 18, the applicable legal majority, an individual impersonating a child, or any digitally-generated content impersonating a child. When we detect Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM), we will report to relevant centers, resources or law enforcement authorities as required by applicable law and jurisdiction, including equivalent authorities in and outside of the United States.
- Do not generate sexually explicit content. This includes using our products or services to generate, promote, depict or request sexual intercourse or sex acts, including to generate, promote, depict or request incest or bestiality, or engage in erotic or pornographic chats.
- Do not use our products or services to deceive, mislead or harm yourself or others. This includes using our products or services to:
- Attempt to, advocate for, or incite harassment, abuse, hatred, violence against or harm of another person or group, such as terrorism or violent extremism, or generate content using our products or services for the same or similar purpose, whether or not directed at Sesame’s users, employees, products or services;
- Prompt or solicit output that promotes any one political or religious ideology, or that would be offensive, harmful or objectionable;
- Create or disseminate fraudulent, false, deceptive, misleading or conspiratorial information, or engage in other similar activity;
- Create or distribute digital replicas, or impersonate an individual without their consent;
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation with an individual, or falsely imply an endorsement by any person;
- Represent that output was human-generated when it was not, or otherwise not label or disclose content as AI-generated in accordance with applicable law that may require disclosure; or
- Facilitate, promote, glamorize, or provide instructions for self-harm, suicide, or harm to others. Sesame’s products and services are not designed for crisis intervention; if you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact emergency services or a crisis hotline immediately.
- Do not use our products or services for purposes it is not suitable for. This includes using our products or services to:
- Solicit or generate professional advice, such as legal, financial, health, medical, tax, or other professional advice;
- Solicit or generate content to engage in regulated activities, such as political campaigning or lobbying;
- Perform automated decision-making with significant impacts on an individual or group; or
- Provide any input that includes regulated personal information of others, such as protected health information as defined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996, Pub. L. No. 104-191.
- Do not abuse or compromise our Service. This includes using our products or services to:
- Engage in any act that Sesame deems to be in conflict with the spirit or intent of the Services or make improper use of the Services or Output, such as by verbally abusing or promoting an uncivil collaboration with the products or services;
- Use, assist or be involved with unauthorized third-party software, code or other devices, such as viruses and other harmful, malicious, and destructive materials, designed to disrupt, modify or interfere with our products, services or computer systems, or otherwise could damage, embarrass, libel or negatively affect the goodwill and reputation of Sesame;
- Attempt to bypass guardrails (such as age verification systems or other age restrictions), gain unauthorized access to the Services or any content, or to the computers, servers, or networks connected to the Services or any content by any means other than the user interface provided by Sesame;
- Circumvent a ban, such as through the creation of a new account;
- Automatically or programmatically extract data or Output, such as for “scraping”;
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, decipher or otherwise attempt to derive Sesame’s proprietary technology or the source code for any underlying software or other intellectual property used to provide the products or services or any of the information or content therein;
- Use the Services for any commercial purpose, such as communicating or facilitating any commercial advertisement or solicitation, or transmitting spam or other solicitation;
- Use the Services or any Output for comparative analysis or to build a competing service, solution, or product;
- Use or direct or permit a third party to use the Services, any Output, or any other information generated, received or derived from the Services to create, develop, train, test, or otherwise improve (or create training data for) any artificial intelligence, machine learning, or language learning models or systems; or
- Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works based upon the Services or any part thereof.
Reporting and Law Enforcement
We may report any activity that we suspect violates any law or regulation to appropriate law enforcement officials, regulators, or other appropriate third parties, and cooperate as appropriate to help with the investigation and prosecution of illegal conduct. Our reporting may include disclosing additional customer information, as appropriate, and network and systems information related to alleged violations of this Policy.
Reporting of Violations of this Policy
If you become aware of any violation of this Policy, or if you experience any model outputs that you believe are potentially inaccurate, biased, unsafe and/or harmful, please notify us at legal@sesame.com. You agree to provide us with reasonable assistance, as requested, to stop or remedy any such violation. We take feedback seriously and appreciate your assistance to help our products and services, including enforcement of this Policy, improve over time.
Changes to this Policy
We may from time to time amend this Policy to further detail or describe reasonable restrictions on your use of the Services by posting a revised version of this Policy on our websites, and the revised Policy will become effective on the date of such posting consistent with the Terms. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of any revisions constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
