People in motion wearing light blue shirts in a photograph by Osamu Yokonami

Made in Japan

At Sesame, we’re building a new kind of eyewear that can stand alongside the world’s best frames.

To deliver on our vision, we obsess over every detail. Getting the style and fit right comes first. Our collection has to look and feel amazing or nothing else matters.

Japan is home to some of the world’s finest eyewear craftspeople. Over decades, they’ve perfected the methods and materials behind the best eyewear.

Many of the most respected frames are made there. Sesame will soon be among them: our collection will be Made in Japan, available in 2027.

Cultivating craft

We’re starting a commission series to celebrate the craftsmanship that inspires us. Last week, we debuted the first piece, a new photograph from renowned Japanese fine art photographer Osamu Yokonami.

Finding the right artist was straightforward. Osamu Yokonami’s images had been showing up in internal mood boards long before this particular concept. We were drawn to his Assembly series, which explores themes of individual personality and group dynamics, depicting people in beautiful yet simple natural settings.

Yokonami’s work has always centered on discovery in unexpected moments, and the connections between subjects and their surroundings in nature. His subjects often move with spirited freedom and uninhibited joy.

Against ungroomed landscapes, Yokonami captures possibility in every motion.

Open what’s possible

Our brief to Yokonami was simple:

What limits people isn’t really ability, it’s belief. We’re after one photograph that gives way. Where someone passes the edge of what they assumed of themselves. Or reaches a place that keeps going after you expect it to stop. An image that captures the forward momentum of conversation.

Yokonami made this his own. As a fisherman, Yokonami has the patience to see where the current leads. He is used to time spent waiting for the conditions to align, leading up to a single bite.

We’re excited to continue this series on the road to the glasses.
